KNOWING THE PAST MEANS
UNDERSTANDING THE FUTURE (2021)
The work explores the relationship between memory and history, examining their similarities and differences, as well as the mechanisms through which they are transmitted and transformed. The work connects memory and space through the motif of a memorial tree, called památný strom in the Czech Republic, serving as a spatial metaphor for remembrance. A drawing, the second fragment of the work, reflects on the idea of history and its role in shaping past, present, and future. In a time when the past is often questioned and misused, the work raises essential questions about the nature of memory, history, and their influence on the future.
The work was created in response to a call for participation in the exhibition DISTURBED BALANCE REVISITED, Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, December 1, 2021 - February 13, 2022.
